The following are the top 10 things I learned at this years Western States 100 Mile Endurance Run
10.) Brown's Bar is a weird weird place.
9.) Dry heat or not.. it's still friggin' hot.
8.) If you're not on Team Diablo or with Auburn Running Company... apparently you're a nobody.
7.) Foresthill beats Auburn in hospitality.
6.) Gordy Ainsleigh really IS a god.
5.) A Californian's idea of high water (needing a boat or rope) is like a Virginian's idea of rocky trails.
4.) Barkley is tougher
3.) Sometimes chasing that silver buckle is a bad idea... just finish turkey!
2.) Flatter does not equal faster
And the number one thing I learned at Western States is:
1.) Karno's hype created HUGE disappointment.

I'd be lying if I didn't say Ultramarathon Man didn't play a huge roll in getting me to take up running, but it didn't take long to figure out that hype is his main product.
ReplyDeleteI know that Barkley is tougher than WS, but what about Masanutten? Judging from the times, I'd expect that to be a tougher course - what do you think?
Massanutten is WAY tougher then western states. There is no comparison... NONE.
ReplyDeleteLoved it!
