A month ago I stepped to the line of the McNaughton Park 150 Mile Trail Run. The end result was not what I had hoped for as I slowly staggered my way across the finish line and calling it a day at the century mark. Since then I've had a bad taste in my mouth, itching for a shot at redemption. It's obvious that the fire burns within, especially after seeing my performance at the Muddy Moose, a few short weeks ago, where I dove deep into my soul and further discovered the meaning of Human Potential. Now. the time has come to toe the line once again at a race which to me has become more daunting then any race I've started previously. The Massanutten Mountain Trails 100 (MMT).
Saturday, May 16, 2009 - 5 am
Front Royal, VA - Skyline Ranch Resort
100+ Miles - 36 Hour Time Limit
MMT is presented by the Virginia Happy Trails Running Club (VHTRC). It is a well organized event over trails of the Massanutten Mountain in the George Washington National Forest in Virginia's Shenandoah Valley. I ran this race in 2008 and felt the pain of the Virginia Mountains. A lot of people put a huge emphasis on the rocks in these Virginia Hills and as I discovered for myself last year... I really don't think that they are that bad. The REAL demon at Massanutten is, in my mind, those leg numbing hills. Regardless of what it is, its all a part of a bigger journey. There is a starting line and a finish line and all that matters is that, as we struggle in our own individual ways, we get from one to the other.
Goals:
1.) FINISH/SURVIVE
2.) Sub 32 Hours
3.) Sub 30 Hours
Note: Last year I had the pleasure of a pacer and crew. This year I am entered into the Stonewall Jackson Division - No Pacer, No Crew.
